About Us

Envysion provides a web-based video management service that enables organizations to use remote video to improve performance and profitability. Delivered using the software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, Envysion Video is a highly scalable solution that turns surveillance video into a strategic management tool for multi-location organizations. Target markets include restaurants, retail, hospitality, financial services, telecom and education. The company was founded in 2004 and is based in Louisville, Colorado.

Dan Caruso, Executive Chairman
dan-caruso---pic.jpgDan is the Chairman of Envysion’s board and is active in both setting the strategic direction for the company and in mentoring the Envysion executive team.  Dan is currently the CEO of  Zayo Group and a board member of New Global Telecom.  He was previously the President & CEO of ICG Communications and a founding executive and Group Vice President of Level 3 Communications.  Prior to that, he was an executive at MFS Communications.  Dan received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Read Dan’s insightful and entertaining business and telecom blog at www.bearonbusiness.com

Matt Steinfort, President & CEO
matt-steinfort---formal.jpgMatt is responsible for both the strategic direction and the day-to-day operation of Envysion.  Prior to Envysion, Matt was SVP of Corporate Strategy at ICG Communications and held a variety of executive roles at Level 3 Communications, including VP of Consumer Voice, VP of Strategy and VP of Finance.  Matt’s early career included stints at management consultancy Bain & Company and IT consultancy Cambridge Technology Partners.  Matt received a BSE in Civil Engineering and Operations Research from Princeton University and an MBA from the MIT-Sloan School of Management.                   
     
Robert Hagens, CTO
rob-hagens---formal.jpgRob is responsible for Envysion’s technical direction and for the development of Envysion’s video service.  Prior to Envysion, Rob was SVP of Network Engineering at Level 3 Communications, where he was instrumental in designing and building one of the largest Internet and VoIP networks in the world.  Before that, Rob was Director of Internet Engineering and the founding engineer responsible for MCI’s Internet backbone. He was also a Senior Engineer at Advanced Network and Services (ANS) before most of us knew what that Internet was.  Rob received a BA in Biology from Carleton College and an MS in Computer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin/Madison.                   
   
Bruce Dawson, SVP of Sales and Marketing

Bruce is responsible for managing Envysion’s direct and indirect sales teams and for defining and implementing the company’s strategic marketing plans. Prior to joining Envysion he was Senior Vice President of Global Accounts at Teletech Holdings in Englewood, Colo. He also served as Vice President of Sales at Stream International and Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales at Walker Interactive, both in Cincinnati. Bruce also held senior sales positions at Infact Technologies, Matrixx Marketing and AT&T/Avaya. He holds a BA in Psychology from Denison University.

Dan Epel, VP of Business Development
dan-epel---formal.jpgDan is responsible for the identification and pursuit of new vertical segments and channel partner relationships.  Prior to Envysion, Dan was the Managing Director for Europe, the Middle East and Asia at software provider Decisioneering.  Dan’s career also includes roles as Founder and VP of Sales and Marketing at Merestone Wireless Systems and as Director of Global Business Development at Apple Computer.  Dan received his BA in Economics from the University of Michigan.

High Country Venture manages Colorado Fund 1 (
www.coloradofund1.com), a venture capital fund seeking to invest in seed and early stage businesses in Colorado. To date, the fund has made several investments in various industries including life sciences, information technology, and retail. It is located in Boulder, Colorado.

Bear Equity
Bear Equity is a private investment firm owned by Dan Caruso. Bear Equity has equity investments in Envysion, Zayo Group (
