Wireless Retailers Seeing Value in Video Driven BI

This past week saw wireless retail POS leader iQ Metrics announce a partnership with MVaaS provider Envysion.  We will jointly provide an integrated solution to wireless retailers.  This is an exciting partnership on a number of fronts.

The foundation of the partnership is the value that video based business intellegence delivers to the end wireless retail customer.  Specifically customers are seeing bottom line impact in sales improvements, loss prevention, and operations and asked that Envysion and iQ integrate and connect more formally.  Its great for providers to see value in partnerships but its more important that customers recognize the value.

Also, this combination represents a cloud-to-cloud connection, meaning that the end customer can ‘say the word’ and iQ and Envysion can securely and nearly immediately integrate video into their critical business data thus accelerating ROI and further reducing IT strain for the end customer.  If you are a believer in video driven BI, we would argue that an MVaaS model is the only way to go.  Consider the need to scale to locations, to users, and integrate to multiple data systems and you quickly recognize that traditional software and hardware models require spinning up huge IT projects.  Just the opposite with MVaaS.

We welcome iQ to the MVaaS ecosystem!   Can’t wait to circle back with more great use cases and case studies.

Top Ten Strategic Technologies for 2012

Well its that time of year again if you can believe it…holiday decorations, budgeting and planning for the new year, and of course annual predictions for what is coming in 2012.  One of the first up that I’ve seen is Gartner.  They announced their predictions for strategic technology trends in 2012, defining a strategic technology as one with the potential for significant impact on the enterprise in the next three years. The list includes such popular themes as mobile technology, social platforms, and apps, along with slightly edgier picks like next-generation analytics and cloud computing.   Couple tid-bits in particular that I thought were interesting.

According to the Gartner report, next-generation analytics will offer a transition “from traditional offline analytics to in-line embedded analytics and from analyzing historical data to explain what happened to analyzing historical and real-time data from multiple systems to simulate and predict the future.”

“Over the next three years, analytics will mature along a third dimension, from structured and simple data analyzed by individuals to analysis of complex information of many types (text, video, etc…) from many systems supporting a collaborative decision process that brings multiple people together to analyze, brainstorm and make decisions.”

Regarding cloud computing, the report predicts that “enterprises are moving from trying to understand the cloud to making decisions on selected workloads to implement on cloud services and where they need to build out private clouds. Hybrid cloud computing which brings together external public cloud services and internal private cloud services, as well as the capabilities to secure, manage and govern the entire cloud spectrum will be a major focus for 2012.”

Of course we can debate each of the technologies and I do enjoy going back and checking the hit rate on these each year (hint: don’t follow the analysts and bet the ranch on any one prediction).  From an MVaaS perspective we directly hit 8 of these 10 individual technology predictions which I guess is better than the alternative, but the real power of MVaaS is in the combination…like ingredients in a great meal.  Here is to some serious cooking in 2012!
